The TEOM Series 4200 Combustion Efficiency Monitor provides on-line
information at coal-burning facilities to gauge a facility's combustion
efficiency. The photo above shows the analyzer's oven in which fly
ash collected on a high-temperature filter is heated to temperatures
of approximately 800 degrees C.
The monitor uses a direct, thermal-CO2 technique to determine the
carbon concentration (in percent) of fly ash generated by a coal
burning facility. The default data output rate is one measurement
every 12 minutes. Using information provided by the monitor, facility
operators will have a new tool to help balance the sometimes conflicting
goals of combustion efficiency, boiler efficiency and air quality
impact, such as nitrogen oxide emissions.
