TEOM Standard Set in Australia

In March 2001, the Australian standards organization named Standards Australia approved a method for the sampling and analysis of ambient air centered around R&P's TEOM Series 1400a Ambient Particulate Monitor. This represents the first time that an automatic monitor has received a standards designation from Standards Australia for ambient particulate matter measurements.

The title of the new standard is "AS 3580.9.8-2001 Method for sampling and analysis of ambient air - Determination of suspended particulate matter - PM(sub)10 continuous direct mass method using a tapered element oscillating microbalance analyser."

The standard's abstract is as follows: "Sets out a method of operating the tapered element oscillating microbalance (TEOM) analyzer to determine suspended particulate matter in ambient air. The method allows continuous operation, providing near real-time measurements of mean particle concentration over periods from 10 minutes to 24 hours."

Standards Australia is the Australian organization that represents the Australian government in two of the premier international standards bodies, ISO and IEC.
