Short Term PM Health Effects

A newly-published study by the Harvard School of Public Health and other major institutions points to a relationship between short-term particulate matter concentrations and the triggering of myocardial infarction. The study was conducted in the greater Boston area between January 1995 and May 1996, and was published in Circulation, a publication of the American Heart Association.

The hourly PM-2.5 and PM-10 measurements used in the study were generated by the TEOM Series 1400a Ambient Particulate Monitor manufactured by R&P. Click here for a related story concerning the quality of hourly mass concentration values generated by the TEOM monitor.

In addition, CNN recently ran an article summarizing the study. Click here to view the piece on the CNN web site.
