The Japanese Industrial Standards Committee has issued a new revision
of an ambient air monitoring standard that includes the TEOM
Series 1400a Ambient Particulate Monitor. This will facilitate
the purchase of the instrument by state and local air monitoring
agencies in Japan for regulatory air monitoring applications.
The addition of R&P's TEOM monitor to the standard follows numerous
years of consideration by the responsible Japanese committee, as
well as the experience gained by operating a substantial number
of the monitors in the country. The Japanese
Industrial Standards Committee is the organization that represents
Japan in the International Standards Organization (ISO) and International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
The applicable Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) is entitled "Automatic
monitors for suspended particulate matter in ambient air."
The standard number is JIS B 7954:2001, with a revision date of
20 January 2001. Reference is made to the TEOM monitor in the method
as the "Filter Vibrating Method."
