Research Triangle Institute of Research Triangle Park, North Carolina,
performs sample analysis for the USEPA's national-wide network of
manual particulate matter (PM) speciation samplers. The laboratory
performs this work under contract to the USEPA.
In preparation for a USEPA test of sequential speciation samplers,
Research Triangle Institute has developed standard operating procedures
for the handling of speciation sampling cartridges for R&P's
sequential speciation sampler. R&P's innovative ChemComb
Model 3500 Speciation Sampling Cartridge is used in the firm's
Partisol Model 2300
Sequential Speciation Sampler.
The standard operating procedure (SOP) for the handling and analysis
of sampling components, and the preparation of denuders used in
the system, is detailed in documents on the following topics:
- Shipping and Packing Instructions
- ChemComb Cartridge Assembly and Disassembly
- Coating Procedure for ChemComb Denuders

The 4- and 12-channel speciation samplers from R&P were conceived
from their inception as flexible, sequential units. The Partisol
Model 2300 Sequential Speciation Sampler was the first sequential
sampler offered commercially to meet the USEPA requirements for
particulate matter speciation sampling. The sampler provides advanced
features such as four independent mass flow controllers with ActiVol
flow control and the ability to sample through sets of speciation
cartridges by wind direction.
