Rupprecht & Patashnick (R&P) is pleased to announce that
on 2 April 2002 the United States Environmental Protection Agency
(USEPA) granted a Class II Equivalency Designation (FEM) to the
Partisol-Plus Model 2025 PM-2.5 Sequential Air Sampler (EQPM-0202-145)
and the Partisol-FRM Model 2000 PM-2.5 Air Sampler (EQPM-0202-143).
These new designations are for the aforementioned Partisol Air Samplers
when configured with a BGI VSCC Very Sharp Cut Cyclone in lieu of
a WINS Impactor.
The performance of the VSCC PM-2.5 fractionator is shown below in
comparison with other PM-2.5 particle size fractionators:
R&P has cooperated closely with BGI, Inc., and the USEPA to
provide this WINS replacement option for the Partisol-Plus Model
2025 PM-2.5 Sequential Air Sampler and Partisol-FRM Model 2000 PM-2.5
Air sampler (single channel). Customers who desire to use the VSCC
fractionator in place of the WINS in these systems should order
the "VSCC PM-2.5 Fractionator for R&P Samplers," R&P
part number 57-008740. In order for these configurations to be considered
a "USEPA Designated PM-2.5 Equivalent Method," the VSCC
unit must be purchased from R&P. The VSCC separator is supplied
with an FEM designation sticker (to be applied to the Partisol Air
Sampler) and an R&P VSCC user manual.

The VSCC PM-2.5 fractionator alone does not imply any type of USEPA
reference or equivalency status. R&P PM-2.5 FRM air samplers
that the USEPA has designated as "USEPA Designated PM-2.5 Equivalent
Method," when configured with the VSCC unit, may use the VSCC
device in place of the WINS immediately. R&P is also offering
the "VSCC PM-2.5 Fractionator for RAAS Samplers," R&P
part number 57-008739. Note, however, that paperwork supplied to
the end user through R&P will be required to be submitted to
the USEPA to gain approval for the use of the RAAS air sampler with
the VSCC fractionator under the "User Modification to Reference
and Equivalent Methods" rules.
