| The Streamline Pro MultiCal System
provides an integrated approach for assuring the quality of data
generated ambient air monitors and samplers. It is a battery-operated,
handheld device with internal data storage that displays audit/calibration
data directly on its screen. The user can select the unit of measure
in which values are displayed.
The Streamline Pro unit is manufactured
exclusively for R&P by Chinook Engineering of Sheridan, Wyoming.
It builds upon the accurate and stable flow rate capabilities for
which the very popular original Streamline
FTS Flow Transfer Standard is known. The MultiCal system uses
the same patented, orifice-based flow measurement configuration
that ensures consistent performance over a wide range of ambient
temperatures and wind conditions.
The MultiCal system's design makes
it an ideal tool both in the field and laboratories.
The Streamline Pro unit simultaneously
generates the following NIST-traceable measurements for the quality
assurance of data generated by ambient quality monitoring instrumentation:
- Flow rate
(0.9 to 19 l/min)
- Ambient temperature
(-25 to +45 deg C)
- Barometric
pressure (0.65 to 1.1 atmospheres)
- External
temperature (optional, -25 to +40 deg C)

The Streamline Pro audit/calibration
device is microprocessor based, allowing for simple menu-based operation,
internal storage of time-stamped measurement results, and nonvolatile
storage of internal calibration constants. Its flow rate range of
0.9 to 19 l/min permits its use with a wide variety of particulate
matter (PM) samplers and continuous monitors, as well as ambient
gas analyzers. Supported instruments include R&P's
TEOM Ambient Particulate Monitor and Partisol
Family of Air Samplers.
Careful characterization of the unit's
performance during its design and development ensures that its results
are highly linear over the measurement ranges indicated above. This
is shown by data generated by the unit for barometric
pressure, flow rate
and temperature.
The
Streamline Pro unit's highly accurate results are ensured by multi-point
factory calibration procedures carried out at the manufacturing
facility. Multi-point factory calibration of the system's flow rate
measurement is performed on a NIST-traceable critical Venturi flow
bench that Chinook Engineering developed in close consultation with
NIST. Chinook's state-of-the-art flow metrology facility ensures
that each Streamline device provides NIST-traceable flow measurements
to primary mass and time standards. The other parameters supported
by the unit are certified using high precision reference standards.
In
its default configuration, the flow measurement cell of the Streamline
Pro unit fits over a tube whose outside diameter is 1 1/4".
An optional adapter kit is available for the connection of the system's
flow measurement cell with other tubing diameters or using a barbed
hose fitting adapter to flexible tubing (see photo at right).
The Streamline Pro MultiCal System
contains a Venturi-type flow meter that determines the actual volumetric
flow rate based upon the pressure drop across its patented restriction.
Using this pressure drop, as well as the local temperature and atmospheric
pressure, the flow rate is automatically computed using the unique
calibration constants built into the flow rate sensor cell of each
unit.
